One user tweeted: “Is it just me or WhatsApp is Temporarily down, cause my photos, GIFs, and voice note fail to deliver. Any other person with this issue?”

Another person tweeted: “WhatsApp Media Sharing is down from past 45 minutes Oh my god! Unable to send any photos or videos. Are you facing it too? If yes which country are you from? #whatsappdown“.

In 2019, the app suffered 6,236 hours of deliberate disruption according to a report published earlier this month, which was largely a result of authoritarian governments blocking access to the app.

This result makes WhatsApp the worst-hit platform for internet shutdowns.

The application’s secure encryption and vast user base make it popular among protesters who want to evade authorities during periods of civil unrest.
