The London Fire Brigade (LFB) said they were called to the blaze in Walthamstow shortly before 5pm this afternoon. Ten fire engines were sent to the scene on Hoe Street, where a two-floor car workshop and garages were alight, the LFB said. Videos of the fire shared on social media showed billowing flames and smoke rising into the sky.
Footage show people watching the blaze near the Ye Olde Rose and Crown pub as they stood behind a cordon.
On Twitter, Walthamstow Labour MP Stella Creasy said: “Walthamstow appreciate that it’s shocking but can confirm it’s the garage behind rose and crown which is on fire so there are flammable items in there – fire brigade asking for public help to stay behind cordon so please stop jumping over it to film and help them by staying back!”
The cause of the fire is not known.
