Peter Sarsgaard Hints At Tone For Matt Reeves’ ‘The Batman’

The Batman star Peter Sarsgaard has hinted towards the tone that director Matt Reeves is going for.

Ever since it was announced that Matt Reeves would be taking on The Batman, fans have been excited to see what the Cloverfield director would have in store for the caped crusader. With many inspired casting choices like John Turturro, Peter Sarsgaard, and Colin Farrell, it’s become obvious that fans can expect something they’ve never seen before. Much has been said about Matt Reeves’ vision of The Batman focusing on the character’s detective roots. While that’s been enough for fans to speculate what The Batman will entail, Peter Sarsgaard has hinted towards the general tone Matt Reeves is going for.

Comicbook.com was on hand during Peter Sarsgaard’s time at the Television Critics Association press tour where the actor discussed how Matt Reeves’ The Batman already feels radically different than the previous Batman films we’ve seen.

“Matt directing this Batman [is exciting], the cast is so awesome. It seems different from other Batman movies to me, just with the cast. There’s something about it that has an edge, it’s young. To me, just my perception of it, it reminds me of when I was in college, and I went to go see The Pixies play, and looking around and feeling the vibe at a Pixies concert. That’s what it felt like to me, a song like ‘I Bleed.’ That it has the energy and that sort of thing, and isn’t so specifically targeted to a very young audience, or a very old audience, but has that power of chaos in it.”

The cast Matt Reeves has in store for The Batman is relatively young with stars like Robert Pattinson, Zoe Kravitz, and Paul Dano. All three choices mentioned were considered largely unconventional when announced, which may also be what star Peter Sarsgaard is talking about when he’s discussing the “edge” that The Batman will have. By referring to The Pixies, a band known for their contemplative, low-key music, Peter Sarsgaard  could also be hinting at the film’s general emotional state being moody.

From the set photo’s we’ve seen from The Batman, Matt Reeves is certainly going for a different take on Gotham that leans more towards the Gothic architecture from the comics as opposed to megalopolis’ we’ve seen in films like Batman Begins. Peter Sarsgaard is also married to Maggie Gyllenhaal, who played Rachel in The Dark Knight. It’s uncertain as to who Peter Sarsgaard is playing in the Matt Reeves film, but his identity will surely be revealed as filming for The Batman continues.
